Refuge Podcast #31 - What has not been said about the BGE rate hike.

More news, views and insight into conservative Republican happenings await in the latest installment of the Conservative Refuge Podcast. You can listen by visiting here:

http://theconservativerefuge.libsyn.com/

In our opening segment, I share some comments you did not hear on WBAL's Ron Smith show about the PSC approval of massive electrical rate hikes. You must hear why all that has happened was predicted and how it exposes the hollow lies of the O'Malley administration and the Busch/Miller led General Assembly.

The blogger roundtable convenes to discuss the immigration debate in Congress. Will the success of the Bush/Kennedy/McCain immigration bill be the death kneel of the Republican Party? Our blogger contributors offer their insight and opinions.

In our closing segment, I respond to some listener feedback asking for the scoop on the recent Maryland Republican Party State Convention. With a nod to our friends at Monoblogue, I share some insight and opinion.

A Frost Warning Issued for Hell

At the risk of being self-indulgent, I just had to share the recent email of Ms. Joyce Thomann, an activist I have admired but who has hated my guts for years. (No, I am not sure exactly why.)

"Dear Friends:

A few minutes ago, the new Democrat appointed Maryland Public Service Commission APPROVED the 50% rate hike requested by Baltimore Gas & Electric(BGE).During the Ehrlich Administration, when the Republican chaired Maryland Public Service Commission approved the same rate increase, the Commission and its Chairman, Republican Ken Schischler [sic] were accused of malfeasance, and the Democrats demanded the entire Commission be fired!

Ken Schiscler [sic] was forced to hire attorneys and defend himself in Court from these spurious charges. At the time, the Republican Chaired Maryland Public Service Commission honestly stated that they were forced to pass along the rate increase – because IT WAS THE LAW! A law written by the Democrat majority in the Legislature a decade earlier!Today, the Democrat appointed Maryland Public Service Commission passed THE 50% INCREASE along to you and to me – BECAUSE IT WAS THE LAW! An absolutely outstanding individual, Ken Schischler [sic], was hounded by the Democrat dogs baying at his heels.

The legal fees which he was forced to incur should be paid by the DEMOCRATS – (individually and from their own personal funds would be my preference) – but don't hold your breath for the Democrats in the legislature to do the right thing!
When you hear one of your friends, neighbors, co-workers complaining about this new rate increase REMEMBER – that increase was brought to them by the DEMOCRATS who have been in control of Maryland's Legislature for more than 40 years! *Many of those who complain are reaping the harvest from the seeds they have sown by their votes.*Many thanks to Ken Schischler [sic] and the other members of the previous Maryland Public Service Commission for being individuals of great principle!

Best regards.
Joyce"

[emphasis mine]

As one of the attorneys who defended Ken Schisler, I cannot tell you how delighted I was that Ms. Thomann is so concerned about putting money in my pocket!

Hell may freeze over any second!

BTW, Joyce is dead on regarding the entire issue. The dems' hypocrisy is so well laid out so many places I really do not know what more I can add.

http://theconservativerefuge.libsyn.com/

Two special blogger roundtable segments in this installment.

First, the roundtable discusses the county budget. Will the County Executive be successful in holding the line on taxes while confronting the untenable desires of the school board and the insatiable desires of local special interest groups? Our blogger contributors offer their opinions.

Second, the blogger roundtable, with special guest Jimmy Braswell, discuss Governor O'Malley's veto of a bill to give drug dealers parole. Does the Governor have to veto this far left legislation to prevent the disintegration of his future political ambitions? Our blogger contributors offer their insight and opinions.

In our closing segment, some news and comment on the criticism of our Maryland Republican Party by former party chairman John M. Kane. You need to hear what the architect of the 2006 election debacle has the chutzpah to say about our current leadership who are trying to rebuild the party*. Share your thoughts and feedback!

*Correction - I mentioned in the last segment that the current state party counsel is Dirk Haire. It appears my information was outdated. Mr. Haire, who served the party faithfully for years pro bono, was replaced by paid counsel with ties to former Lt. Gov. Steele. The criticism of this move has some merit. Thank you to our studious listeners for helping me with this one. -GK

The blogger roundtable, with special guest David Kyle, convenes to discuss the issue of gun control in light of the recent events at Virginia Tech. Will the "gun grabbers" in Annapolis use this tragedy to push through greater gun control measures in a potential special session? Our blogger contributors share their insight and predictions.
